The Program "Matter and Technologies" at KIT
The program Matter and Technologies (MT) is part of the Helmholtz Research Field Matter in the Helmholtz Association. MT contributes to the answer of questions concerning the origin and nature of matter. KIT has specialised in two topics of MT: Accelerator Research and Development (ARD) and Detector Technologies and Systems (DTS).
KIT program spokespersons
Prof. Dr. Anke-Susanne Müller (IBPT)
Dr. Andreas Kopmann (IPE), deputy
KIT program manager
Dr. Christina Widmann (IBPT)
The following KIT institutes participate in MT
- Institute for Beam Physics and Technology (IBPT)
- Institute for Data Processing and Electronics (IPE)
- Institute for Astroparticle Physics (IAP)
The program „Matter and Technologies" activities are part of the KIT center for elementary particle physics and astroparticle physics, KCETA. IBPT, for example, performs research on novel particle accelerators and already operates on several particle accelerators for the generation and disgnostics of ultra-short electron bunches. IPE pushes the limits in detector instrumentation and online data processing.
The graduate school KSETA offers the opportunity for PhD students to work as members of international projects in particle and astroparticle physics. Young doctoral researches will be prepared for their careers in science and industry by participating in an environment of researchers from different institutes at KIT and supervisors in KCETA, e.g. professors, tenured researchers.
